My local chapter of the BMW Car Club of America holds monthly get togethers that are very informal. In fact, one of the best things is the variety of Bimmers, and even a rogue Porsche, show up. There were some older cars in not-so-perfect condition and an extremely rare Neiman-Marcus edition M6 Convertible.

I haven't looked into my BMW CCA chapter to to much but if they did more informal meetups like this I'd probably join. I always said when my car sucked less I'd consider joining so I could go to a track day.
